Gaius Julius Caesar was born on July 12,100 B.C., and he was born into a patrician family. He was tutored in the subjects of Greek, Latin, grammer, coposition, public speaking, and philosophy. Caesar joined the Democratic party which was led by Marius. Caesar married Cornelia, daughter of Cinna, and by doing this he defied Sulla. Sulla was the leader of the nobility party and threatened to kill Caesar, forcing him into hiding. After awhile Sulla granted Caesar a pardon, and Cornelia had a baby girl, named Julia. However, he still couldn't go into rome because it wasn't safe. Caesar traveled east and for three years was in the military. He recieved some laurels because he had saved a comrade. He was able to return to Rome after the death of Sulla, and once in Rome he prosecuted two provincial governors on charges of extortion and corruption. Caesar went to Rhodes to become better at oratory, or public speaking, and was taught by Apollonius Molo. While Caesar was traveling over sea and band of pirates kidnapped him. The pirates ransomed him at twenty talents, or twenty thousand dollars, but that ransome was soon changed to fifty talents. Caesar's friends paid his ransom freeing him and as soon as Caesar was able to get a fleet he went back to the island and killed all the pirates.
