The First Triumvirate
- Gnaeus Pompey and Marcus Crassus held the office of consul in 70 B.C.
- Pompey achieved military victory against Mithridates, Syria, Phoenicia and Palestine
- Crassus was the richest man in Rome in 62 B.C. when Pompey returned
- Caesar made a political move by joining with Crassus and Pompey in the First Triumvirate
- In 59 B.C. Pompey married Caesar's daughter, Julia
- In 59 B.C. Caesar become consul with Bibulus
- Since Caesar had all the power Bibulus withdrew
- Caesar married Calpurnia in 59 B.C.
- Caesar was made proconsul of the Province, Cisalpine Gaul and Illyricum
The Change from a Republic to a Dictatorship
- The Triumvirate during the proconsulship began to crumble
- Crassus died and Julia died leaving Caesar and Pompey with no common connection
- Civil war eventually occured and Caesar defeated Pompey at Pharsalia
- Pompey was killed in Egypt
- Caesar was made a dictator for life
- Caesar changed the way the Senate operated- merit was more important than birth
- Some of his achievements included: introducing the solar calender, settled homeless Italians on farms, and started to fight to make life more fair for everyone and not just the rich

The Ides of March
- There were many men who wanted the old Republic restored
- Two of these men were Brutus and Cassius
- With a group of senators these two killed Caesar
- On March 15th 44 B.C. Caesar was stabbed 23 times and died at the age of 58
- After great unrest eventually the role of the leader was filled by Caesar's adopted son Octavion who would later be named Augustus Caesar after another triumvirate and civil war
- Augustus would play a profound part in Rome's history
