Gaul on the whole was divided into 3 parts.

The Belgians live in one part.

The Aquitanians live in another part and the Gauls in a third.

The Gauls call themselves the Celts.

However the Romans call them Gauls.

All these people differ amongs themselves in languages, customs, and laws.

The Garonne River divides the Gauls from the Aquitanians.

The Marne and Seine divides them from the Belgians.

Of all these the Belgians are the bravest because they are furthest from the Province's culture and refinement.

Merchants very rarely go to them and bring in those things which tend to weaken the character.

The Belgians are closer to the Germans, who live across the Rhine.

With these Germans, the Belgians continually wage war.

For this reason the Helvetians also with respect to courage exceed the remaing Gauls in courage because almost everyday they fight the Germans.

Either the Helvetians ____ the Germans from their territory or themselves wage war in the German's terriory.
